This is Kauai's most popular kayak activity. The Wailua River is perfect for kayaking and you'll paddle 2 miles each way up to a trailhead accessible only by boat. From here, you'll hike through a Hawaii Jungle for 1 mile until you arrive at a beautiful waterfall. The tour option includes a 1 hour stop here and you'll have to time to take and swim and absorb this amazing setting. Return the way you came and be back after a 5 hour tour. For most people this is certainly an adventure! It's 4 miles of paddling and 2 miles of hiking roundtrip. The hiking portion requires a few stream crossings and you'll need to navigate some rocky and slippery spots! It's well worth it, just understand what you are getting yourself into. The Wailua River Kayak and Waterfall can be done as a guided tour or on your with a kayak rental. Please specify which one you prefer when making a reservation. See you on the water!
These three kayak tour companies below offer same waterfall kayak hike as described above it just adds a nice lunch to the fun! And juice. All three have the same pricing so just find your perfect time.
If tours aren't your style (or sold out) renting kayaks allows you to experience everything these rivers have to offer. For the popular Wailua River Kayak & Waterfall HIke, we have rental options located right next to boat launch site. This means you don't have to haul the kayaks on your vehicle which while doable can be a bit of a hassle for some.
If you are willing to haul kayaks around it opens up a wide variety of options as Kauai is blessed with many rivers and safe ocean inlets. If you rent from us we'll provide all the straps and nick nacks you'll need to have a good time on the water. We also have ocean kayaks that are ideal for paddling to Kalalau Valley or Kipu Kai Beach.
