The Hughes 500 brings you close to the view, with an open cabin and no window glass between your camera and the scenery. Our 60-minute flight leaves time for scenic turns over Kauai’s dramatic landscape.
From takeoff in Lihue, the island unfolds in deep valleys, waterfall-lined cliffs and rugged coastline. Our pilot plans the route around visibility and weather so each flight follows the conditions of the day.
We also offer a 20-minute flight to Waiʻaleʻale Crater, weather permitting. Choose this shorter adventure under Flight duration in our booking calendar.
An hour above the Garden Isle
Na Pali’s sea cliffs and valleys offer a striking coastal perspective when conditions allow.
Waimea Canyon reveals red rock walls and deep folds in the landscape.
The North Shore and Hanalei area add bay, mountain and valley views to the wider island route.
Mount Waialeale and the interior waterfalls are weather-dependent highlights.
Four guests. An open view.
The Hughes 500 has four passenger seats: two beside the pilot and two in the rear. Its doors-off configuration creates an open-air experience throughout the flight.
Seats are assigned for aircraft weight and balance. A specific seat is not reserved by choosing this flight; let us know about your group before booking if you have seating questions.
Body weight rules
The same rules apply to our 60-minute and 20-minute Hughes 500 flights.
Over 250 lb per person or over 400 lb combined for two people: an additional adjacent comfort seat must be purchased.
For a group of 3 or 4, one passenger must weigh 150 lb or less and be no taller than 5 ft 10 in for the front middle seat.
Weights include clothing, shoes and carry-on items. Everyone is weighed at check-in; seats are assigned for aircraft weight and balance.
Getting ready for doors-off flying
Review the current age, weight and height requirements in the live booking flow.
Follow the instructions for clothing, footwear and securing cameras or phones. Loose items need to be secured before takeoff.
Use your confirmation for the exact check-in location and arrival time at Lihue.
Our pilot chooses the route for the day’s weather and visibility. Mountain, canyon and coastal views depend on conditions. These sightseeing flights do not include a scenic landing.
What should I bring?
Bring your booking confirmation and any identification requested in it. Follow the clothing and loose-item instructions for your selected flight. Cameras and phones must meet the flight’s security requirements; dark clothing helps reduce window reflections.
What happens if the weather changes?
The pilot may adjust the route or decide that a flight needs to be rescheduled or cancelled. Review the weather and cancellation terms in your booking. Planning your flight early in your Kauai stay leaves more room to reschedule.
